ABOUT OLETA
|
Hi there, I'm Oleta and I am the face behind Oleta Photography.
I am married to Andrew and we have two children, a dog and a cat. We are based in Southland and prior to my new venture, I worked in Theatre and Cinema in Gore. I volunteered backstage doing sound and lighting in my free time since I was a teenager which lead to a job in sales and for a while, management. I have tried many things in my time. I've worked in a library, in the electrical industry, cleaning and the farming industry. I always went back to theatre as I love creative expression, music and seeing people do what they love. When our kids came along it became harder to fit the shift hours and shows into their schedule and I took a step back. I worked in retail for nearly 2 years as the hours were more parent friendly and while I enjoyed it, I missed the energy I felt in my positions at the theatre and volunteering for shows. During all of this, photography was my outlet and became my passion. I would drive my kids to sleep some nights and drive to places where I could capture sunsets and walk my dog to where I knew the light would be right for a photo opportunity. I started to feel like myself again in those moments, In November 2018, my husband won a job in Lumsden, so I went to a casual role in the company I work for when we moved. I love the scenery out here and I all of a sudden had a lot of free time to focus on photography and think about what I really want to do when I grow up. I started doing photoshoots for friends, family and became the photographer for a rugby team which is where the business began. Going from photographing landscapes and objects to capturing people, memories and candid moments has been hugely rewarding. I have come a long way in the past year and I see my photos improving and changing every time I take my camera out which is exactly the kind of challenge I need! |
