Back in October I had a mini session with the Stevenson family and we had a beautiful day for it in Lumsden!
I will run these mini sessions twice throughout the year , and change locations where I can. The beauty of this job is I am finding a lot of awesome new locations for these sorts of shoots. Each session is 20 minutes, and the best 8 images are delivered on a USB. This year I am introducing a set of 6x4 prints with the package, and of course enlarged prints and canvases can be ordered. Thanks to this beautiful family for being so easy to work with, it was a pleasure to meet you!

Where it started. I love going out in the fog, rain, wind as well as the sun to capture all sorts of images. The moodiness of an autumn in the Catlins was so cold, but very rewarding as it was like 4 seasons in a day. I am so fortunate to have a wonderful family (and in particular my husband) who understands why sometimes I just want to drive somewhere for no particular reason.
Family photography is a widely sought part of the industry. However this means that there are so many options. I was a little nervous about going down this avenue, we know many amazing photographers in Southland. It was a "let's just try it" moment and it has paid off.
I am very grateful to everyone who took a chance on me last year. I am so pleased I took this step! I find so much joy in meeting new families and their extended families. Sessions start off a little nervous and by the end everyone is relaxed and more "themselves" which is when I find the best photos are taken. This year I have extended my session times because of this and changed my family packages on a whole to make for a better experience. I have been debating with myself on where to go with photography for quite some time. I have always wanted to do *something*, but like any hobby it costs money and takes up time. I took the plunge in April last year to explore the business route. I am loving the challenge!
I had always had point and shoot cameras. I got to the point I wanted to take things further so I took the plunge and bought my first DSLR. I have taught myself all I know so far and I am looking forward to learning more. This past Christmas I upgraded my kit. I changed brands, which is unlike me, but I have found it worth it! Like everything in life, even the website has been a challenge to make decisions on. How far to go, whether to blog, whether Facebook might be enough. I decided I would take a step back from daily stories on Instagram and pour more into writing as it is what I prefer. In this blog I will document about photography, but also about my life from time to time as my family are a huge part of my photography story. Thank you for reading this far! I will get better at it.
